This mobile adds charm to any space and is simple to make. You can give it a personal touch by using things you already own as your materials. Old jewelry, found feathers and sticks; even the most random items can be used to make this a personal mobile. Personally, I like things with a bohemian touch, so I tried to use as many organic pieces that I could. I also wanted to keep it simple, which is important to keeping the piece balanced.
Materials:
beads
jewelry wire
assorted threads
twigs and sticks
origami or decorative paper
jewelry glue
needle
Any feathers, trinkets, or unique item you want to hang.
First, wrap the wire around each end of your stick to create the hanger. Then with thread, make a secure knot around the center of the stick. Leaving a few inches in between, use the same piece of thread to tie on the other stick. You can continue this process, adding on as many sticks as you like. I chose two for mine.
Begin stringing your beads onto the thread. To secure the bead, tie two knots around the bead, one on the bottom and the other on the top. You can also use old jewelry for this part. I used parts of a necklace to add contrast to the thread. If there isn't balance, the sticks won't lay straight. Keep in mind the weight of the objects you're using.
I learned how to make origami cranes from
this website. It takes practice and patience but is fairly simple once you get the hang of it. Using a needle and thread, string the crane onto the thread and tie a knot at the end of the it.
Secure all knots with jewelry glue.
